Irvine / Reader questions

# Ask for the bill that follows the first payment.

Get the recurring cost and the terms for stopping it. Ask which parts pay for care, medicine, tests and delivery.

## Separate the medicine from the care fee.

Online weight-care services can charge a monthly fee, called a membership, with medicine billed on top.

The membership offers checked September 26, 2026 charged for medicine separately from that fee.

Ask which visits and support the fee buys, how often it is charged and what ends when you stop paying.

Ask for a written total with each part on its own line:

- The assessment or recurring membership.

- The exact medicine and the amount supplied.

- Any requested tests and review of results.

- Supplies, delivery and later follow-up.

- Renewal, cancellation and refund terms.

Then ask what changes after any introductory period. Keep the written answer beside the advert.

## A medicine price gives only part of the bill.

### A dated cash-price example

Wegovy (semaglutide) is a medicine used to help with weight loss.

Its pen form is a device for giving the medicine as a shot.

The maker listed $349 per monthly box for some semaglutide (Wegovy) pens on September 26, 2026.

That box held four pens.

Other pen versions and introductory offers had different prices.

Ask whether you would give the shots yourself and who would show you how.

This is a medicine-only example, not an Irvine service quote. Request a fresh written total for the particular product offered.

The example uses the maker’s advertised cash-price record checked September 26, 2026.

## Ask the insurer about the exact use.

Give the plan the medicine’s name and the reason the clinician is considering it. Ask for the answer in writing.

Part D, Medicare’s basic prescription-drug benefit, excludes medicines used just for weight loss.

The medicine may qualify for Part D when it treats diabetes or another medical condition Medicare accepts. Each plan still applies its own payment rules.

Even when your doctor recommends it for that use, your plan can refuse payment under its drug-list and advance-approval rules.

Ask the insurer whether it accepts the medical use your doctor has named, and whether that exact product is covered.

Eligible Medicare patients may get help paying for certain weight-loss medicines through a temporary programme, the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge.

That programme operates separately from ordinary Part D cover.

Medicare coverage rules checked September 26, 2026.

- Is this exact product on the covered-drug list?

- Must the insurer give approval before the prescription is filled?

- What will I pay, and are the visit and tests separate?

- If Part D will not pay for weight loss, could I qualify for the Bridge programme?

## Get the cost of continuing.

Ask what the next bill will contain and what happens if you stop. A price comparison is easier when each written quote covers the same things.
